My work is very satisfying to
make. I love the ocean because when I’m at the beach I feel an
overwhelming sense of connectedness. No matter what crazy directions my
daily grind pulls me in, I can go to the Oceanside and I am reminded
that I am part of this amazing scheme of things.
My work reflects the love that I hold for this big, beautiful world we
live in. I cherish the earth now, as I did when I was a kid, stashing
precious rock in my pocket wherever I went.
This childhood gesture of trying to connect to the natural world has
turned into an obsession of sorts and coupled with my love of
metalsmithing,
I find myself here.
Solstice Designs came into being in 1997 after much encouragement from
friends and family to sell the beach stone bracelets that I was making.
One thing led to another and before I knew it, I had a business.
Usually I collect my stones from beaches in my neighborhood though
occasionally, I travel and explore other beaches in the state and around New England.
It is important to me to use stones in their natural form. I search
only for stones that are an appropriate size and shape to be used in
jewelry so that I don’t have to alter them at all. To me, the natural
materials are most interesting.
All of my pieces are one-of-a-kind, simply because every stone is
different and unique. This variation makes it impossible to show
examples of everything that I do on this site but, what’s here, should
give you a good idea of what my work is all about.
I like to incorporate pearls with stones and sometimes use seaglass,
pottery shards, shell, and other organic, found objects in my work.
Please keep a few things in mind as you check out this site. Any of the
work you see here can be crafted in sterling silver or 18 karat gold. I
have a variety of chains available and all of my brooches are designed
with the option to be worn as a pendant as well.
The link style bracelets vary in length due to the irregularity of the
stone sizes. I make them as close to a standard 7” as possible. Please
let me know the length that is right for you for a custom fit.
I do a lot of custom work for people who find their own stones. In particular, I am focusing on Wedding Jewelry but love to do any custom work. I would be happy to talk with you about a custom project. They are great fun for
me to work on!
Enjoy the site!! Thanks for visiting!!
